Ask the Teacher

Fridays from 10:00-2:00. This is a time when you can come and get help with a any project you are working on or need encouragement to complete.  Judy will answer all of questions and provide you with all those teacher tips she has.

Bella Bargello

This most recent release from Judididit Designs will be fun to make in this two part class, led by the designer.  Judy always has a lot of information to share, a sense of humor and loads of encouragement, and this class is no exception.  This stunning bargello quilt will make you love “stripping”. Expect some homework between classes to complete this top. Kits are available

Ribbon Stars

This stunning quilt is made from one block using Nancy Mahoney’s book, Ribbon Star Quilts. In this 2-part class by taught by D.G., you will learn the technique for piecing and cutting the bias strip sets and assembling the blocks. There will be homework between classes, to complete the quilt. Part 1 will allow more class time than Part 2. DG will also teach the additional border technique we used for the shop sample, which is not included in the book. Kits are available

Basic Beginners

In this last 2 parts of this 4 part class, students  will learn all the basics of choosing a setting & setting blocks together, then applying the borders correctly. There will be homework in between the monthly sessions, but by the end, you will have up to a bed size quilt, ready for quilting.

Floor Quilts

This technique outlined in Ellen Highsmith Silver’s book, Floor Quilts, is a  fun new process to use fabric to decorate your home in a new way. Whether you are making a small floor quilt, or placemats, it gives you an opportunity to try something new using, traditional, or non-traditional quilt blocks.  Let Allison show you how to adapt this technique to fit your design ideas in this all day class, which will take you through the entire process.

Crazy Curves & Rings

Curved piecing is a breeze using the Crazy Curves templates by Elisha’s Backporch and Judy’s experience. You can make any quilt with curves that you want, but if you haven’t tried the one with rings, let Judy show you how to round the bend in this two part class.

Tuck-away Tote

This fabulous little tote, is a perfect Earth Day project.  This pattern designed by Make It Easy, is easy and fun to make and use.  Folded up, it’s small enough to fit in a larger purse or glove compartment.  Unfolded it is a 19” x 21” tote, suitable for caring any number of purchases at you favorite shops.  Use these in you favorite batiks to replace all those plastic bags they sent home. Pattern & fabric included in class fee.

Quilts On The Double

Make 2 quilts at one time, using this technique  by outlined in the book by Judy Hooworth & Margaret Rolfe. Using “tops” and “tails” you will cut the strip sets and then set them together in any number of setting options to acquire the look that you like most. You’ll have a lot of fun in this two part class.  The first class will last 3 hours and the second class 5 hours to help you get your two projects completed.

Thru My Window Stained Glass

Bonnie Finnigan has made more of these quilts using preprinted landscape fabrics, and black fabric fused on top then quilted than probably any one person.  She loves this technique from Patchwork Studios, and will make you love it too. This will be a fun class, and Bonnie will be able to give you lots of information and inspiration.

Machine Quilting

Karen Nanos is an award winning long arm quilter in the area, and she will show students how to get started with machine quilting on your home sewing machine, which is where she started.  Karen has lots of experience and wonderful hints to share with you and will get you started off on the right foot. So, if you have never machine quilted, or would just like to pick up a few more tips, this will be a great class for you.

Shade Cascade

This pattern is made using Karen Combs fabric line and pattern from Blank Fabrics. This quarter log cabin design is easy to cut and easy to piece. The best part is to make this 12 color quilt, you only have to purchase 3 different fabrics. Kits are available.

Mystery Event

It’s time for a Mystery. We delayed this one from Marti Michell, and it’s the Case of the Substitute Teacher.  These are always fun filled events.  So plan a retreat for yourself and enjoy the day.  This one is a bit different from the ones in the past.  The fee will include the cost of  the cutting templates (it’s Marti Michell after all) and 10 fat quarters for making the center of the quilt. Borders  will be added after your top is pieced.  You may wish to purchase 10 extra fat quarters to make a full size bed quilt.

All classes must be paid for at time of signing up.  Fees are refundable in the form of store credit up to three days prior to class being held. Class size minimums must be met, in the event that they are not, the class fee will be credited.
